The origin of Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社) is said to be date back to when the Inari no Kami (稲荷神, Inari god) descended into Inari mountain on the first day of the Horse* in February of 711 A.D.
In Kyoto, visitors make wishes for the prosperity of their family at the shrine by purchasing twigs of shrine’s sacred tree known as “Shirushi no Sugi (しるしの杉)” on this day.
