For three days of Setsubun (節分, division of seasons), I visited several Setsubun festivals with my friend.
Around the first day of spring passing from winter, the festival is held at temples and shrines in Kyoto. It was interesting to know that ogres, which symbolize men's evil desires such as greediness and silliness, are cleared
off by throwing beans.
Ogres were acting a little rude but somewhat cute. At the same time, I enjoyed viewing beautiful red and white plum blossoms.
Visitors were entertained with sweet sake, and a rice-cake pounding was performed. Spring is just around the corner. That was so refreshing and we enjoyed it a lot.
