I've often asked “What is a delicious thing like Kyoto?” I replied “In a cold day like today you will get warm by eating udon or soba noodles with soup
thickened with kudzu.” Put light-colored soy sauce into broth which get from kelp and dried bonito, and thicken it.
And grated ginger is added. It is very simple recipe, but very delicious. You will warm your body with steaming one.
My recommendation of snack is “Kitsune Senbei (fox-shaped Japanese rice cracker)”
sold in front of the gate at Fushimi Inari shrine. Its taste is nostalgic, changeless from old days. The face of fox depends on the shops and delicately differs. Very cute.
Another recommendation is popular candies of Kyoto vegetables. Kyoto vegetables grown in Kyoto’s climate and natural environment are nutritious and taste good. The standard item for winter, candy of “Shogoin radish” will make a good souvenir. Omikuji with the candy I bought was greater good luck. I was very glad.
